An overview of French at Sandford Hill

Welcome to Modern Foreign Languages at Sandford Hill!

“One language sets you in a corridor for life.  Two languages open every door along the way.” (Frank Smith, author.)

At Sandford Hill we aim to inspire a love of learning languages. French is taught across KS2, by a specialist French teacher, through a variety of activities.   We make sure that the four main skills of language learning – speaking, listening, reading and writing are covered in the curriculum.  Children enjoy taking part in games, songs and activities and are encouraged to speak and write French as well as read and listen to the language.  The emphasis is on learning through fun and being able to ‘have a go’ without fear of making mistakes.  Children enjoy taking part in lessons and using a range of apps and websites to further their learning.

We are confident that our children leave Sandford Hill with a firm foundation to continue French or even take on a third language.
