Our Vision:  At Sandford Hill Primary we will empower thoughtful and respectful pupils who deeply care about the planet

Our Aims

  • To reduce, reuse and recycle for a sustainable future
  • To further develop pupil’s understanding of local and global environmental issues (as individuals and collectively)
  • Provide memorable outdoor learning experiences

Throughout the year and across the school, a wide range of opportunities are provided for the children to raise their awareness of environmental issues. Regular opportunities are planned for to actively encourage the children to show ‘Thoughtfulness and Respect’ for our world. This is regularly seen in action as the children embark on litter-picking patrols around the school grounds and local area. Assemblies are held to promote environmetal issues and our  annual ‘Eco Day’ is always eagerly anticipated during which the children devise their own individual ‘eco promise’ for the year ahead. Eco Day enables the children to explore a particular environmenal theme and parents/carers are invited in to school to work alongside their children. Everyone in school is encourage to reduce, re-use and recyle and this is actively encouraged through our recycling of paper, crisp packets and batteries- all enthusiastically over-seen by each class’ recycling monitor.

    Eco Warriors?

Our Eco Warriors are pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 who all have a keen interest in environmental issues and in helping to protect our world.

Eco Warriors help in many ways across school by:

    • helping to plan and taking part in Eco days
    • putting on informative assemblies
    • being responsible for making sure recycling bins are emptied
    • helping to keep the school grounds tidy through litter picking
    • encouraging others to recycle
    • taking part in regular meetings
    • learning about how to look after our planet
    • teaching others about issues
    • encouraging thoughtfulness and respect at all times for each other and for our world
