Music

Music plays an important part in the life of our school and we are proud of the many opportunities our pupils have to develop their skills and enjoyment. Music lessons are delivered by specialist teachers from the City Music Service, and pupils in Years 1 to 6 also participate in weekly song practice sessions. As part of their music lessons in Year 3 and Year 4, all pupils learn the recorder before progressing in Year 5 and Year 6 to learning a brass instrument with public performance opportunities such as the Year 4 Recorder Festival and the Year 5 Brass Concert at the Victoria Hall. In addition, Year 5 pupils are able to join our Ukulele Club, further extending their instrumental skills.

Our strong partnership with The Hallé Orchestra through the City Learning Trust enriches pupils’ musical experiences, from nursery children engaging in nursery rhyme workshops, to older pupils exploring individual orchestral instruments and attending live performances.

Beyond the curriculum, our weekly Key Stage 2 choir provides opportunities to perform at large-scale events such as Young Voices in Birmingham, as well as at community occasions including the annual ‘Light up a Life service in support of the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
