Active Travel

We recognise that coming to school in an active way enables our children to feel energised and ready learn. Combining this with the importance of road safety and reducing congestion in our local area, we encourage our whole school community to engage with active travel when possible. Please see more information below concerning the schemes that we are linked with.

Walk on Wednesday

This scheme is aimed at encouraging children to walk to school or park and stride. It involves rewards for children that are able to walk to school and we will also be hosting an award for the class who travel to school in an active way most often.

We recognise that it may not always be possible to walk to school due to living arrangements. However, we feel that it is important to promote the message of active travel, when and where possible. The Walk on Wednesday scheme can include ‘Parking and Striding’ which involves parking away from the school site and walking the final leg of the journey into school which should be approximately a 5 minute walk. Not only does this work to reduce the congestion around our local area, it will also help energise children and preparing them for the school day.
