School Allotment
We hope that all of our children have some understanding of where our food comes from and our school allotment enables us to support this and allows the children to get stuck in themselves. Each year group is encouraged to spend some time in the allotment and plant a variety of fruits and vegetables, learning about both seasonality and the conditions that are needed to allow a plant to flourish. In the past, year groups have grown carrots, courgettes, beans, potatoes and rhubarb amongst many other items. The food that is grown is then used in our cooking lessons, beginning with the children harvesting the fruits and vegetables themselves. If our allotment is particularly plentiful then we have even been fortunate enough in the past to share some of our produce with our school community at a summer farmers market, allowing everyone to enjoy the fruits of our labour!
Please enjoy looking at a selection of photos below showing our school allotment.
